Elon Musk stated on Twitter that customers should be prepared for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving package price to increase “substantially” beginning of May.

“Please note that the price of the Tesla Full Self-Driving option will increase substantially over time,” Musk tweeted.

When asked if the price range would be around 3 Thousand, Musk responded with, “Something like that.” Right now the full option cost $5,000, so that would be about $8,000.

“For example, Model 3 Standard Plus used to cost $37,500, plus $3,000 for the Autopilot option. It now costs $39,500, with Autopilot included,” Tesla said in a press release. The Tesla company prides itself on its autopilot option stating that “very important because our data strongly indicates that the chance of an accident is much lower when Autopilot is enabled.”

Later in the year, drivers will be able to try the new autonomous option that can now respond to traffic lights and stop signs, as well as drive on city streets.
